Date of birth
31 July 1948 in Paris (France)
Interest
As Odonatologist I have a large number of dia slides on Odonata from  North Africa, Europe and Asia Minor. Besides some papers of more local interest for East France, I wrote some papers on the subspeciation of Onychogomphus forcipatus and Cordulegaster boltonii in Europe, North-Africa and Asia Minor. Also, I collaborated to the second edition of the French "Guide des Libellules d'Europe et d'Afrique du Nord" by J. d'Aguilar and J.L. Dommanget (Delachaux et Niestlé, ed.) (1998), and I am the co-author with Gilles Jacquemin of the book "Les Odonates (Libellules) du Maroc" (S.F.O., France, 1999), a fauna dealing with the North African Odonata. Work Presently, I  am working as Pedologist (Pedology is soil science) at the CNRS, the French National Center for Scientific Research, and, more precisely, I work about soil and surface water acidification due to acid rain.

Leiden, The Netherlands dijkstra{at}naturalis.nnm.nl
Date of birth
7 January 1975

Currently I am erecting PHAON (Pinhey's Heritage African Odonata Network), the African counterpart of Epallage. Other activities are the study of the dragonfly fauna of Belarus and the revision of Coeliccia from Borneo and the Philippines.

My active interest in Odonata started in 1989 with a wandering individual of Calopteryx splendens. Since 1992 I have been active in the organising-committee of the Dutch Odonata mapping project. From the founding in 1997 till 2000 I have been chairman of the Dutch Dragonfly Organisation. The last years my interest in dragonflies was more and more drawn to foreign countries resulting in numerous trips to various European countries. At the moment I'm mostly interested in the fauna of Turkey and Iran.

I work for the European Invertebrate Survey - The Netherlands. This organisation is part of the National Museum of Natural History (Leiden) and organises a mapping project of various groups of invertebrates. It gives advises to governmental and nature conservation organisation on the protection of invertebrates. I only work three days in a week in order to have enough time for my Odonata-projects.

Gert Jan van Pelt
Residence Leiden, The Netherlands gj.vanpelt{at}wolmail.nl
Date of birth
3 January 1957
Interest
During my study biology, I have been working on the Palaearctic representatives of the genus Cordulegaster, and I haven’t stopped since. I conduct my research especially in Greece and Turkey, where I try to establish the delimitations between closely related species and subspecies.
European and West-Asian Cordulegaster are divisible into two species-groups, the C. boltonii and the C. bidentata species-group. Within each species-group, all species are essentially vicarious, that is, the ranges of the species do not (or hardly) overlap, a rather unique situation within Odonata. The biological mechanism beyond this phenomenon, and its evolutionary origin, are unknown as yet. I try to gain information on this subject during field work and by examining collected material. Publication e.g. On dragonflies from Greece in the RMNH collection, Leiden, the Netherlands. LIBELLULA SUPPLEMENT 2, 1999: 77-90
Work
I work as Desk Editor for various biological journals.
