List of dragonflies observed in
the Caucasus
|
![]() |
In their publication of the indetification key of the Odonata of the Caucasus,
Ketenchiev & Haritonov (1998) have given a list of 82 species observed in four
different parts of the Caucasus. With approval of Prof. Anatoli Haritonov (Novosibirsk),
we are proud to make this list here available on Internet.
The Caucasus is the mountain range between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Highest peaks are the Elbroes, the Kazbek and the Sjchara, all above 5000 m. In the list both the Northern part of the Caucasus (Caucasia) and the Southern part Caucasus (Transcaucasia) have been divided in an Eastern and a Western part. Thus, they have divided the Caucasus in four areas:
NW: Northwest (Russian Federation; with e.g. Karatsajevo-Tsjerkessia)
NE: Northeast (Russian Federation, with Dagestan and Chechenia)
SW: Southwest (Georgia)
SE: Southeast (Azerbaijan)
From this list, especially the (sub) species from the southwestern part of the Caucasus could be expected in Turkey. These species are:
Calopteryx splendens cartvelica (precise status under discussion)
Aeshna juncea juncea
Aeshna juncea crenatoides (precise status under discussion)
Gomphus vulgatissimus
Onychogomphus assimilis fulvipennis
Lindenia inkiti (precise status under discussion)
Sympetrum vulgatum decoloratum (as Sympetrum vulgatum flavum)
Sympetrum vulgatum vulgatum
Leucorrhinia caudalis
The list of species is here presented. Sometimes the names of species have been adapted to those which have used by Tsuda (1991). The name used in the table of Ketenchiev & Haritonov (1998) is then mentioned between brackets ().
